The proposed Southbeach Regional Fire Authority (SBRFA) levy funds closing the aging Westport fire station, we agree that they need a new facility but relocating to a their prefered new site that will cause dangerous delays in fire and medical responses and cost you up to three times more! This wasteful plan ignores the station's flood/tsunami risks and outdated design but trades them for slower emergency times harming our community.
Key Problems
- Closing Westport station adds travel time from new central location, worsening response to to the majority of their calls for service.
- No proven benefits; similar moves elsewhere lead to layoffs or inefficiencies without faster service.
- Taxpayers foot the bill for unneeded disruption—use our tax tracker to see real spending priorities.
The City of Westport has attempted to broker a deal that would provide for the RFA's needs at a third of your tax dollars and twice the RFA Commissioners have voted against the best interests of the majority of their user community and for a plan with much higher taxes.
